Secretariat

Assembly
- One of the three main sections of the League of Nations
- Met once a year to consider general policy
- Every member had one vote
- Chose which members were allowed to join the League
- Chose non-permanent members of Council
- Controlled budget of the League
Council
- One of the three main sections of the League of Nations
- Executive body of the League which made final decisions
- Met 4-5 times a year, in addition to meeting in emergencies
- Consisted of permanent and non-permanent members
- Britain, France, Italy, and Japan were permanent members in 1920
- Germany became permanent member in 1926
- Non-permanent member count increased from 4 to 11 between 1920-36.
There were also separate organisations that worked alongide the League
Permanent Court of Justice
- Made up of 11 judges and 4 deputy judges with 9 year terms
- Made decisions to resolve international disputes
- Advised the council
- Set up in the Hague
International Labour Organisation
- Set up in Geneva
- Improved working conditions through policies in the workspace
- Also represented different groups with its committees (eg. employees, employers, government...)
The League of Nations also had many smaller commissions and committees that confronted more specific problems concerning the Treaty of Versailles
- Mandates Commission: Oversaw the occupation of the victorious nations (mostly Britain and France) in the lost territories of Germany and Turkey
- Danzig Commission: Administered the city of Danzig
- Minorities Commission: Wanted to ensure that there was as little as maltreatment of racial minorities as possible
- Intellectual Cooperation Organisation: Encouraged communication between academics, artists, and writers to exchange cultural experiences
- Special Committee for Drug Traffic: Exclusively targetted towards the minimisation of the drug abuse and smuggling.
