- There were no major conflicts at the time
- The League seemed to be working
- However, this was simply because countries had been exhausted for World War 1
- Therefore, the lack of major threats was not merely a doing of the League, but also because of the exhaustion of countries in World War 1
Here were the successes in the 1920s
Aaland Islands (1921)
- First dispute to be resolved
- Sweden and Finland wanted to claim it
- Majority wanted to be part of Sweden
- League of Nations gave territory to Finland with supervision and safety measures for residents (eg. demilitarization)
- Sweden accepted judgement
Upper Silesia (1921)
- Germany and Poland wanted to claim it
- Originally granted to Poland in Treaty of Versailles
- Germany protested
- Plebiscite (vote for sovereignty) favored Germany in general
- Rural parts favored Poland
- Eastern Upper Silesia transferred to Poland
- Western Upper Silesia transferred to Germany
- Poland and Germany both accepted it
Mosul (1924)
- Turkey claimed control over Iraq territory (mandated by Britain)
- Populated with Kurdish speaking people
- Iraq was given the territory
- Turkey accepted judgement
Bulgaria (1925)
- Demanded payment of £45K from Greece for being on Bulgarian borders
- Greece sentry died in crossfire
- Greece accepted judgement, but thought it was unfair because of different treatment in Corfu incident
